TULARCITOS RIDGE FIREWISE

WHO WE ARE

Tularcitos Ridge Firewise is an official member of the national Firewise USA® program. We are residents of Sky Ranch Road, Via Cielo, Tira Nanza Vineyard, and adjacent Cachagua neighborhoods who are working together to:

  • Help you make your house more fire-safe
  • Coordinate wildfire planning and response with local and state agencies
  • Provide early wildfire alerts
  • Aid your evacuation during an actual wildfire

MISSION

Tularcitos Ridge Firewise formed in 2021 following the 2020 Carmel Fire, to help our community recover and become more resilient in the following ways:

  • PARTNERSHIPS – We have partnerships with Cachagua Fire, CAL FIRE, PG&E, Monterey County Regional Fire District, Fire Safe Council for Monterey County, Monterey County OES and the Sheriff’s Department, plus other stakeholders to bring all resources to bear on awareness and response planning.
  • FUEL MITIGATION – We are working with Monterey County, CAL FIRE, Cachagua Fire, and Monterey County Regional Fire District to assist with fuel mitigation in common areas. We ask that you each take responsibility for providing a minimum 100-foot fuel break on your property. This is the best way to save your home!
  • EDUCATION – We host fire safety information fairs, Zoom talks with fire experts, and maintain resources on this website to disseminate the latest fire prevention information. Every fire season, we cut decommissioned fire hose into tow chain covers, then distribute them freely throughout Cachagua to prevent road sparks that can cause wildfires.
  • TRAINING – We organize neighborhood evacuation drills, home fire safety evaluations on request, and direct neighbors to CPR, AED, and basic First Aid training offered by the Cachagua Volunteer Fire Department.
  • AWARENESS – We keep residents aware of any important news about fire prevention, and maintain communication during an active fire through our private handheld radio system. We engage with new technologies such as the ALERT Wildfire surveillance camera network and apps such as Watch Duty that send real-time disaster alerts to your phone.
  • FIREWISE – As an official Firewise USA site, we earn recognition for our fire preparedness efforts and annually track our volunteer hours and dollars spent. Not only does this designation help assure firefighters that our community is safe to defend during a conflagration; a Firewise certification may help reduce homeowner insurance cancellations and reduce insurance rates.
